What could be more gratifying than to ensure that year after year, each and every child in Manhattan Beach’s schools receives a superior education. The goal of the MBEF Endowment is do just that.
MBEF provides critical funding for the Manhattan Beach public schools. Its annual grants pay for teachers and programs that would be eliminated if not for private donations. These grants make our schools top in the state and make our community a wonderful place in which to live and raise a family.
Funding the MBEF grants every year is no small feat. Our parents, community, and local businesses care about its students and have been very generous in its contributions to MBEF. But the need goes well beyond the immediate future. That’s why the MBEF Endowment was created: to protect Manhattan Beach schools from the erratic fluctuation of state funding and other economic realities by creating a long-term, stable and secure form of funding.

Through ongoing generous and prudent management, the Endowment Fund’s assets have grown to nearly $9.3 million in current monies (as of 2/1/13) with an additional $581,000 in pledges to be received over the next four years. The fund follows a prudent, long-term investment strategy overseen by the Endowment’s Chief Investment Officer, Rich Weiss, Investment Committee and Endowment Board of Directors.
The Endowments assets are invested to create a stable return that will help fund MBEF, and our schools, for generations to come. Consistent with the Endowment’s Investment Policy Statement, which sets forth the specific investment guidelines, the Endowment Fund is invested across a well-diversified portfolio of investments. Since the implementation of this Investment Policy in early 2005, the Endowment portfolio has out-preformed all comparable benchmarks. Upon reaching initial funding of $10 million, the Endowment Fund will begin to supplement MBEF’s annual grants.
