A Message from the MBEF Executive Director

By March 13, 2018August 8th, 2018eNews

Dear Friends,

I’m writing to let you know that at the end of this school year, I will conclude my service as executive director of MBEF and the Endowment. In June 2018, I will complete my fourth year at MBEF, and the Parcel Tax initiative will have reached its conclusion. This will create a perfect opportunity for me to transition to a new role, and for MBEF to grow under new leadership.

I have accepted a position as the Chief Operating Officer of the Environmental Charter Schools, a role that is more aligned with my personal purpose and professional history of creating windows out of poverty for high need families. While this opportunity promises to be both challenging and inspiring, it is bittersweet to leave MBEF and the wonderful work that we have accomplished together.

I am truly grateful to our wonderful community, our dedicated board, and my tireless team for the endless amount of wisdom, generosity, integrity, kindness, tenacity and ingenuity you have brought to our shared work. In the last four years we have strengthened and expanded our grant making programs, increased our advocacy efforts at the state level, strengthened our parents’ and our teachers’ voice in our grant making, grown the endowment, raised community awareness of our school funding challenge… and our District, MBEF and the Endowment are stronger, more effectively governed, better integrated, and more strategic and innovative. The commitment of our community, teachers, leaders and volunteers to the impact we have on our local public schools, has made all this possible. I am certain that this commitment will carry MBEF from “good to great” in the years to come.

While it saddens me to leave, I am comforted in knowing that MBEF is in excellent hands. Our Board of Directors and small but mighty team are amongst the best in California. They are a strategic and thoughtful group that is dedicated to the work they do to serve our community. I will be here through June 11th to support the transition and after that, our family is not leaving Manhattan Beach and I will be here as a parent and partner to support MBEF and our District for years to come.

I hope that this is not a goodbye, but an opportunity to know each other in a different way.

Thank you for the opportunity and honor of working with you all.

Warmest regards,
