A Message from Newly Appointed MBEF Executive Director

I am honored to have been selected to serve as Executive Director of the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation. I have been a part of the growth and vision of MBEF for well over a decade and look forward to continuing the momentum we have developed in strengthening our public schools.

We can all take great pride as a community in the opportunities we provide our students through MBEF. MBEF funds 74 teachers and specialists throughout the District – including PE teachers, music instructors, MakerSpace assistants, STEM lab specialists, librarians, counselors, reading specialists, assistant principals, and teachers on special assignment. The programs and educators we fund through MBEF reach every child, every day.

As the MBEF director, I will do my best to ensure that MBEF continues to fund programs that align with parent and teacher priorities, and inspire learning, enrich teaching, and promote innovation and academic excellence. I believe that MBEF is more important than the $6M in funding we give to our district each year. It is the mechanism through which we give our parents a powerful voice in their children’s education, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure our students continue to have access to these opportunities. I gladly welcome your input and involvement in MBEF’s efforts to strengthen our schools. Please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected].

With a 2nd, 8th and 11th grader at home, I am very mindful of the fact that our district would not be the same without a librarian to help my young reader choose the right book, or the opportunity for my middle schooler to try her hand at a STEM elective, and my junior to explore options for his future with his counselor. So much of what makes our district wonderful is funded by our community.

I look forward to continuing our work to create meaningful opportunities for all Manhattan Beach students together.

With warm regards,

Hilary Mahan
Executive Director
