How to Raise an Adult: Julie Lythcott-Haims Tickets On Sale Now!

By February 12, 2019 Uncategorized

As the dean of freshmen at Stanford University for over a decade, Julie Lythcott-Haims noticed a significant increase in parental involvement in students’ lives. Parents were exerting control over academic work, extracurriculars and career choices rather than risking their child’s failure or disappointment.

In her presentation based on her New York Times bestseller, How To Raise an Adult, Lythcott-Haims draws on her own insights as a mother and dean to highlight the ways in which over-parenting harms children, their stressed-out parents, and society at large. She will invite us to examine our behaviors and join the growing movement to allow children to develop the resourcefulness, resilience, and inner determination necessary for success.

MBEF will host several opportunities:

Meet & Greet

Sunday, March 24th from 3:30-4:30pm

Presentation plus a signed copy of How to Raise an Adult and access to the reception with Ms. Lythcott-Haims hosted by Beach Cities Health District.

Presentations

Sunday, March 24th from 5-7pm

Monday, March 25th from 7-9pm

We recommend that all MBUSD families reserve their tickets now – the event will open to the entire South Bay after February 15th.

The Manhattan Beach Education Foundation would like to thank Beach Cities Health District and South Bay Families Connected for sharing the importance of Julie Lythcott-Haims’ message throughout the South Bay community. Together, we believe in providing educational resources to benefit the social-emotional wellness of our youth and families. Support of these organizations ensures that important opportunities are available to our students and parents.

We encourage you to support our local bookstore, Pages: a bookstore, by purchasing “How to Raise an Adult” on-site at the event or at their store in Manhattan Beach.

Thank you for your support!
