LITERACY & wRITING

Fostering Lifelong Readers

Strong literacy skills are foundational to student success. In addition to classroom instruction, our students have access to a dedicated campus library and staff to support reading proficiency, comprehension, and research skills while cultivating a love of reading with books that engage and challenge them. MBEF funds FIVE Library Resource Specialists to support school libraries districtwide.

Elementary Library Resource Specialists

In addition to classroom instruction, our students have access to a dedicated campus library and staff to support reading proficiency, comprehension, and research skills while cultivating a love of reading with books that engage and challenge them. MBEF funds FOUR Library Resource Specialists to support elementary school libraries districtwide.

Super Literacy Quiz Bowl

A beloved elementary tradition, the Super Literacy Quiz Bowl is a friendly, grade-level team competition that inspires a love of reading as students work collaboratively to demonstrate their knowledge of literature while building teamwork, confidence, and critical thinking skills.

Middle School Library Resource Specialist

MBEF funds ONE Library Resource Specialists to support the MBMS school library.

Historical Literature & Cultural Experience

Funding provides all 5th and 8th grade students with the opportunity to study Number the Stars by Lois Lowry and Maus by Art Spiegelman respectively, paired with immersive experiences at the Holocaust Museum or Museum of Tolerance. Together, these experiences deepen historical understanding while fostering empathy and compassion.
